Under floor heating with Storage Heating

Conventional means of heating i.e. Radiators and panel heaters emit hot air,
which rises to ceiling height, and then as it cools it begins to fall, this
causes draughts along the floor.
Studies have shown that we feel more comfortable when our feet are at a slightly
warmer temperature than our heads.
Deviheat utilizes this, because we distribute the heat over the entire floor
area. Then nature takes its course, as the heat rises we feel the benefit both
at floor level and head height.
By using the structural concrete of the floor as the storage medium for
“off peak” heating, we have a heating system, which is completely hidden.
The concrete is heated during the hours of “off peak” availability and the
heat gently dissipates for the full 24 hours, provided that a suitable insulation is placed under the concrete floor slab. This allows a
flexible room layout with no cold spots and a completely clear floor and wall
space. There is no risk of contact with hot surfaces as with other forms of
heating. Cold draughts are virtually eliminated, because any air, which
naturally flows across the floor, will be quickly heated.
Floor warming does not have the flexibility to respond instantly to inputs of
“day energy” and so in domestic situations particularly it is usual to
“top up” with other direct acting means. This can be a radiant fire or more
usually with ceiling heating or direct acting cable to maintain the “hidden
heating” concept. As a rule the direct acting cable is installed in the area
with the highest heat loss, which is generally the external wall with the most
glazing. This way all that is required are two size cables normally covering 75%
& 25% of the floor area and an additional controller. Normal domestic heat
requirement are then achieved, and you will find you can run it at a lower
temperature than conventional heating systems. The perfect answer... under floor
heating.
In commercial and industrial applications it is usually possible to achieve
full under floor heating to 16/18°C with “off peak” only, eliminating the need for
direct acting “top up” heating.
The main requirement for cable systems is a minimum of 50mm concrete screed.
Cable sizes are calculated within a range of 160-200 watts per m2.
Deviheat storage heating systems offer:
- An economically viable alternative to traditional radiator system.
- A fit and forget under floor heating system that automatically adapts to seasonal changes to
outdoor temperatures.
- Free floor area, which allows for new possibilities in interior design.
- A quieter system, i.e. no moving parts.
- Maintenance free system with a 10-year guarantee for Deviflex cables, and
a 2-year guarantee with Devireg thermostats.
